Corrective rate — base saturation method

V% method. Indicative estimate for the 0–20 cm layer.

Formula: LR = (V₂ − V₁) × CEC ÷ PRNT. The result is an estimate — the final recommendation must consider the complete soil analysis and the agronomist's assessment.

How to calculate the corrective rate by base saturation

  1. 1

Gather the soil analysis. From the soil analysis, obtain the current base saturation (V%) and set the target V% (the crop's goal).

  2. 2

Enter CEC and PRNT. Enter the soil's CEC (T) and the neutralizing value (PRNT) of the corrective (calcium & magnesium carbonate) you intend to use.

  3. 3

    Compute the base requirement. The lime requirement for a 100%-PRNT amendment is LR = (V2 − V1) × CEC ÷ 100.

  4. 4

Adjust for product quality. Adjust for the corrective's quality: rate (t/ha) = LR × 100 ÷ PRNT.

  5. 5

Multiply by the area. Multiply the per-hectare rate by the total area to get the amount of corrective needed.
